Parental Discretion Advised

Kristen, Adam, Laura and I were all standing in my kitchen talking to Courtney (who’s in London) over Skype using Adam’s laptop.

Laura: “Coco, I got a flute today. I start lessons next week.”

Courtney: “Oh my. Kristen, will this be like when you played the recorder?”

Kristen (laughing): “Laura will be taking lessons. I used to fake playing the recorder.”

Mom: “How about when Kristen played the French horn?”

Kristen: “I pretty much faked that too.”

Courtney: “Adam, does Kristen fake anything with you?”

Everyone in the kitchen (except Laura): LOL

The Truth Hurts

Reminiscent of a post I recently read on Sam’s blog, a similar thing happened to me tonight . . .

I had just finished singing a lullaby to Laura tonight, as I have done almost every night, without fail, for seven-plus years.

Mommy: “Did I sound anything like Jordin Sparks?”

Laura: “Nowhere near.”

We Take Our Dental Hygiene Seriously

Away on a family vacation to visit Courtney in London and then on to Rome and such (there will be vacation photos and stories to come) meant that Laura missed swim team for the last two weeks. This was our conversation before school today:

Laura: “I haven’t been at swim team for two weeks.”

Cheri: “You’ll be there next week for sure.”

Laura: “What if there is an emergency and I can’t go?”

Cheri: “Unlikely.”

Laura: “What if there is?”

Cheri: “It would have to be a serious emergency.”

Laura: “How serious?”

Cheri: “Like snow. If it snows in San Diego in April, you can skip practice.”

Laura: “What about plaque on my teeth? Would that count?”
